Utilising red-orange and cyan LEDs combined with an infrared (IR) component, the EDF2 offers substantial operational life (burn time) while also significantly improving the level of visibility.  

Bright in all directions (360° visibility and luminous angle ≥180°) and visible over 8 miles. With a burn time of three hours longer than pyrotechnic flares, the EDF2 is clearly the “brightest” choice one can make.

Meeting the requirements of RTCM 13200.00, the buoyant EDF2 electronic boat flare is classified as an Electronic Visual Distress Signal Device (eVDSD). It also meets the requirements of Maritime New Zealand’s International Voyage Certificate (IVC), meaning it can replace four red handheld flares.

The EDF2 can be supplied with 8 x CR123 lithium batteries needed or these can typically be purchased from hardware stores, electrical wholesalers or other battery retailers. They are the industrial CR123 batteries and can be changed/installed by the owner or user quickly without tools.
