We use this mostly where we have fibreglass on a vertical surface. So the fibreglass cloth is applied with the resin mix to a vertical surface, (say a wooden shower bulkead) normally if you put too much resin on the cloth it dribles down and "orange peels" leaving a number of dribles that are hard to sand off once cured. Once you have saturated the fibreglass then onto the wall, the lay another layer over the top of this peel ply and as you use a squeegee (plastic scraper) to squeeze the excess resin through the peel ply, that extra resin sits on top of the peel ply and dribbles down. Simply allow this dry. Then once dry and as this special fabric is tough, lightweight, woven nylon fabric, it will not stick to cured epoxy, you can tear the peel ply off (removing it means those dribbles and excess resin that is now hard and dry and comes off with the peel ply you have just torn off. ) the original wall, leaving the
Squeegee over wet epoxy laminates. The excess epoxy will soak through the peel ply. After cure, remove the peel ply (it simply tears off) and you are left with a smooth surface that is ready for painting or secondary bonding (needs no sanding). Use Peel Ply cut into strips to cosmetically finish fillets, moulded chines, and seams.
It is used to separate the breather and vacuum bag from the laminate in vacuum bagging operations. Excess epoxy bleeds through and is peeled from the cured laminate along with the Release Fabric. It’s also used in hand lay-up applications to allow more squeegee pressure and protect the lay-up from contamination. Peels easily and leaves a smooth textured surface, ready for bonding or finishing. Can handle post-cure temperatures up to 410°F (210°C). Red tracer indicates peel ply left behind on the laminate.
