Mooring Chain

Black chain is not galvanised and is simply used for that underwater use on moorings. It is a longer link than used on anchor winches. Because of its continual immersion galvanised chain would not last longer. G30 Also, black chain is generally 40% stronger than short link galvanised. For example 13mm galvanised short link chain is approximately kN80 (K-newton)  80,  while black chain is kN80 (K-newton) 122c.6. While often referred to as black chain, most of the latest mooring chain has a light silver coating that wears off underwater and makes it easier to handle above water when initially purchased.
